INTERNATIONAL VOLUNTEER:

Operacion Esperanza, Cleft Lip / Palate Health Care Team Member Since 2003

For two weeks each year, this foundation serves the needs of children in Ecuador who were born with facial deformities. In 2006, we provided 67 removable intraoral appliances. The majority were designed to obdurate oral-nasal fistula to aid in eating and drinking. These appliances included orthodontic auxiliary wires to reduce the severity of the teeth and skeletal misalignment. Several over-dentures were delivered to adults with repaired bilateral clefts and severe mid-face deficiencies in an effort to improve function and facial esthetics.

(The time related, three-dimensional challenges of flying are quite similar to those of orthodontics. Flying has enhanced my skills in providing orthodontic care)
